OK, I finished watching episodes 1-8 of The Last Dance for the 2nd time. With the airing of the final two episodes tonight, the walk down memory lane will conclude. While the overwhelming emotion watching this documentary has been happiness, there have been moments of anger. It will definitely be bittersweet seeing it come to an end, just like seeing the premature end of the Bulls dynasty.

The coolest thing is to see the memories of your youth get played out on the big screen for all to see. Born in Chicago, growing up with this team, we lived and breathed this stuff; to share these memories and feelings with everyone is really cool. Personally, it’s a walk down memory lane that is coming to an end; although really, it never ends. Yes, we can’t be like Uncle Rico and live in the past, but damn… this was some good shit.

I’ve talked about Jordan’s leadership on display in these episodes. In Episode 7, towards the end, one of the most talked about parts of the documentary, he talks about the price of winning and how his drive to win evolved into pushing others to want to win just as bad; trying to get every ounce out of every single player along the way. The best part about it: he didn’t ask anybody to do something he wouldn’t do. This is leadership folks. Wanting every single person on this team to contribute, to feel a part of the team, so that when that trophy is hoisted, everyone feels like they earned it; I don’t see anything wrong with that. He knew what it took because he did it. He set a standard of excellence that he demanded out of everyone. Bravo Mike.

I like the part in Episode 8 about talking shit; we all have experienced this at some point. It’s really easy to talk when you’re winning; even easier to talk after you’ve won. But how about when it’s a brand new game? How about when you’re down? That’s the true test. Talk then, and oh yeah, then back it up. Being a competitive person myself, supporting my teams both at home and on the road, there has been a fair amount of back and forth. You feel strong? You come in with that attitude. Don’t wait to run your mouth until the game is over. The unwritten rule of trash talk… although many gutless wonders don’t abide by it.

Of course I’m looking forward to the final two episodes, but it’s over then. There are no episodes 11 & 12; there probably could have been. I could sit here and come up with at least another 10 episodes worth of material to cover. Although it has been very well done, there is a lot of stuff that happened that was not touched upon; it’s understandable based on trying to fit everything into 10 episodes, AND making it detailed and flow beautifully. Yes, what will we look forward to each and every Sunday night? The Last Dance was perfectly timed with all that’s going on in the world right now. It was a welcome distraction. I mean, I think I’ve written like 20 blogs about it… haha. Couple more to go… get the popcorn ready for the finale.
