May 18, 2014: Kick his teeth in

Saturday afternoon rolled around, and I actually got to watch most of the Cubs game.  It was nice to sit down, relax, and watch the game… it was also nice that the Cubs made it an enjoyable experience by beating the 1st place Brewers 3-0.  The Cubs scored all 3 runs in the 1st inning off of ex-Cub Matt Garza, who previously stated that “I’m going to try to kick their teeth in” when referring to his future matchups against his ex-ball club.  Well Matt, how you like us now?

I liked Garza when he was here, for the most part, although he seemed like a ticking bomb, kind of like Carlos Zambrano.  He did have a bit of an injury history, which kept him off the mound for us as well.  Although when he pitched, he pitched pretty well.  I was fine with the trading of Garza.  We got a nice return for him, including current HR or bust 3B Mike Olt, solid relief pitcher Justin Grimm, and a hot pitching prospect in C.J. Edwards.  Rangers ownership even stated as much recently, saying they gave up too much for him at the time.  Only time will tell how these guys turn out, but I like what I’m seeing thus far in the early stages.

I’m sure Garza is happy with his current team.  After signing with Milwaukee in the off-season, his team sits in 1st, while the Cubs sit in dead last.  It’s still nice to beat an ex-player, especially someone who makes comments like that.  I don’t really have any problem with the comments; he’s just a competitive guy with an edge.  You still don’t like that stuff being directed to your team.  He even made some comments about Samardzija lately, and how he needs to pitch himself off the Cubs.  (As I mentioned before, I really hope they can come to an agreement and sign Jeff).  Shut up Matt!  Who cares what you think about your ex-team?  Mind your business, and try to stay healthy.  My bet is he’s on the DL before the year is up, and that the Brewers end up missing the playoffs.

As far as the Sox go, they lost to the Houston Astros, and another one of my fantasy team’s pitchers, Jarred Cosart.  They made another comeback, but it wasn’t enough.  Even more alarming, is the deal with Jose Abreu’s ankles.  I’ve mentioned it previously, but it appears he’ll be going on a DL stint.  He will miss tomorrow’s game for sure, and maybe more.  That’s bad news for the Sox as they continue to try to reach .500.
