Wanna bet? If you wanted to bet on something nowadays, anything, in any game, you probably could; it really is crazy. Back in the day, there were the sides and the over/under; there really wasn’t a whole lot of other options. Sure, if you were in Vegas for the Super Bowl, you could bet on all kinds of things. Today, every single major sporting event is like the Super Bowl, in the number of things you can bet on. Maybe it’s time to dig into some of this other stuff; maybe it’s time for a new angle…
Last time I checked in with the Draft Kings update, my account was sitting at $3; I was pretty much resigned to my fate… zeroing out my account, being happy with my $250 in winnings, and waiting for football season to begin. But, just like in poker, that chip and a chair philosophy has kept me alive; I’ve built it back up to almost $20… woo hoo!!! The couple things that have helped me get back up, have been the MLB batter props. It makes sense; it kind of goes hand in hand with fantasy baseball, that I have been playing forever. Looking at particular historical batter-pitcher matchups, coupled with how they’ve done in a particular ballpark, along with each of their recent performances… there is some money to be made there. The first guy that I bet on to hit a HR, was none other than Anthony Rizzo. I saw his performance against the Reds pitcher from Friday night; very good. I know Anthony has done well in that ballpark over the years. I got a 100% boost, so yeah, it made perfect sense to take a flier. It hit! +800 on my measly $1 bet was nice… I thought, let’s do it again…
The next time I looked was Freddie Freeman vs Charlie Morton; very good history there. And oh yeah, the game was in Atlanta… a return home for Freddie. Yeah, it was worth the +450 play, and… it hit! This is easy… haha. So I looked again on Tuesday night; Eduardo Escobar looked like the play vs the Cubs Drew Smyly. Another +450 wager, and… it didn’t hit. Nothing is that easy. I mean, the Mets were hot, and although Escobar isn’t an every day player for them, he has hit a HR recently. On the other hand, Smyly has been really good this year, better than his past performance, and that’s what eventually won out. OK, so I have to pick my spots… can’t just blindly play a guy based only on one factor. Still, looking at Wednesday night’s matchups… Aaron Judge and Justin Turner look juicy, although the odds for Judge to homer again at only +180!!!??? That’s insane, but there is something to be said for riding the hot hand…
Yeah, we’re sticking around… dabbling here and there still. Nuggets and Golden Knights cashed; Canes didn’t. Heat finally lost one for me; been riding that pony. The NBA and NHL seasons are winding down, which would only leave the MLB for the next couple months; see how long I can stick around… Good luck to all of us!
