May 25, 2020: That’s Hockey Baby

The return of live sports will be lead by… the NHL?!?! Hey I don’t care what sport it is, just give me something. It looks like we’re going to get something… eventually. The return of hockey will happen in what looks to be some time in July; something is better than nothing.

Frankly, I didn’t care about the return of hockey this year. The Blackhawks were done anyways. My original recommendation was to come back with the playoffs. The season was pretty much over, so take the 8 top teams in each conference, even use a play in game if necessary, and get it on. Then as time went on, I was fine with completing chucking the rest of the NHL season. Was I supposed to be excited about a potential repeat for the Blues? Scrap it; fine. Well, hockey will return after all, and it will start immediately with the playoffs. The only twist is there will be 12 teams in each conference that will make this second season. Why does that matter? Well, the Blackhawks are now back in the mix! That’s hockey baby!!!

Sure, like Dumb and Dumber… so you’re saying we have a chance. Yes, that is true, and although that chance will have better odds than one in a million, odds of advancing aren’t so great, right? Well, you know what they say; get into the playoffs and anything can happen. Thanks to the COVID, the Blackhawks are back in the playoffs after a two year hiatus. So you’re going to tell me there will be silver lining to the Corona? Hey, if the Blackhawks win that first round, if Crow stands on his head, we will get deHaan back, and we do have plenty of playoff experience; I need something to hang on to OK?

Are there odds yet for the series? Vegas will be opening back up in early June, and all bets are on. Take a little action on the Hawks? Have to be getting great odds. Dead money? Maybe. I’m just excited as hell to see some playoff hockey in a year which I thought we wouldn’t. What if the Blackhawks win? Win it all? Does it count? Will there be an asterisk? I’d love to worry about that. What if it’s any other team? I mean, if this is what it is, then this is what it is. A champion will be crowned!

Chicago is also in the running to be one of the host cities for these playoffs. So you’re saying the Hawks sneak into the playoffs due to COVID and get home ice advantage? The fantasy becomes just a bit more possible. Yet, without fans, does it really matter?

It’s fun to talk about live sports, although technically they’re not back yet. But the fact that the NHL will be returning provides some much needed good news. Who would have thought it would be hockey leading the way? Now we just need to wait for the dates… Go Hawks! We’re baaaack!!!
