May 27, 2014: Deja Vu

I was feeling sick as a dog last night.  I actually set the DVR to record the game because I didn’t think I was going to make it.  I would have to turn off my cell phone to avoid getting any text messages.  Would I actually miss Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals?  No.  I “miraculously” got a 2nd wind, and I watched the entire game.  It made me feel even sicker.  The Hawks got their ass handed to them last night, and now they sit down 3-1 in the series.  It’s sickening, but…. we’ve been here before.  Will we be able to pull off another comeback from down 3-1 in a series?  Will history repeat itself?  We can only hope…

The Kings are better than the Wings from last year.  The Kings are outplaying us worse than the Wings did last year.  The Kings are 2 years removed from being Stanley Cup champions, and still have a lot of their roster intact.  All that being said, the Kings have already lost 3 straight two times in this postseason.  How the heck does that happen?  They’ve lost 3 straight in both of their previous series and WON both of those series.  So, regardless of how good the Kings have looked and how bad we have looked, things can turn around in a hurry, as proven by the last 2 series the Kings played.  The Hawks are better than the last 2 teams the Kings have played.

OK, so I was wrong about the Blues being our toughest series.  Now, this officially qualifies.  However, we only have to look back to last year to see the Hawks come back from a 3-1 deficit.  The question is will they do it again.  We had opportunities last night.  The power play was ineffective again.  Crawford looked pedestrian.  We have NOT been getting the bounces this series.  We will need all of the above to do a 360 to come back.  The power play and Crawford HAVE to be better.  As far as the bounces, you make your own bounces… but it helps to have some things go your way;  we’ll need that too.  The fact is we have to want it more, because up to this point, the Kings have wanted it more.  Yes, you may have said that we NEEDED to win either Game 3 or 4; that they were MUST wins.  They were NOT MUST WINS.

I said I wouldn’t believe that the Hawks would lose this year, until they actually lost.  I still feel the same way.  Until that clock says all zeroes, and the Hawks have lost their 4th game in a series, I refuse to believe that the Hawks will lose.  This cannot happen.  This will not happen.  I don’t believe it.  Is this my sheer fandom that makes me like this?  Is it so bad that I refuse to see the reality of the situation?  Maybe, but I can’t change the way I feel.  This Hawks team IS the best team in the NHL;  they need to come out and prove it.  They need this game;  this is a MUST WIN.

One win can turn this whole series around.  This is what we’re asking of the Hawks.  One win.  Win Game 5, and the series goes on.  If the series goes on, anything can happen.  If the Hawks can take care of home ice, they will go back to LA on Friday night, with another MUST win on the agenda.  They need to win Game 5.  The only way we can experience deja vu is to win Game 5.  Simple.  One win.  Stay alive.  Come back.  Win.

How quickly the phony hawk fans lose faith and go negative. The easy way.
Please go to bed early like you did Monday night. Don’t watch the Hawks try to win their 3rd cup in 5 years. Every team does that .

Its not about losing faith. Its what makes us die hard fans. Hawks lose (they way they did, lazy, lazy, play), next day is the worst, untill they play again. Cubs fans are used to it, but it does not mean it hurts any less.
