May 31, 2014: Thrill Seekers

posted in: Blackhawks | 3

Just another game, eh?  Wow, it doesn’t get much better than that.  Game 6 actually topped the drama of Game 5. What will Game 7 hold?  Can’t imagine the UC being any louder on Sunday night. Hawks are coming home. Series is tied. Stanley cup finals trip on the line. Don’t have to sell that.

The thrill seekers gave us another thrill this Friday night.  Down 1-0 after one, down 3-2 midway through the third, the heart was working OT again tonight.  What an f-ing game!!!  2 goals in the third, one by Keith, the game winner by Super Kane, gave the hawks the must win it needed, and pushed this series to the limit.  Glorious victory!

As I arrived at the sportsbook in Caesars, I appeared to be outnumbered.  I ran into 2 Vancouver Hawks fans.. Go figure!  That’s who I spent the 1st period with, while I saw a couple other hawks fans spattered about in the crowd. It wasn’t until that first goal in the 2nd period that I realized it was more even than I thought. About 8 guys jumped up from behind the individual TVs as Kane converted on the PP.  A table of ladies cheered loudly as Ben smith gave the Hawks their first lead with a very nifty goal. Maybe we were 1000 more miles away from Vegas than LA, but it sure seemed like we took that sportsbook over in the 2nd, just as I thought the hawks did in the game.  We were just getting started.

What transpired in the 3rd period was some high drama. As the kings tied and then took the lead in the game, the LA crowd yelled and danced.  I knew this was going to be one hell of an ending.  When Keith tied the game, the sportsbook was as loud as it was up until that point. Da dadada dadada and let’s go hawks echoed throughout the crowd as this game appeared headed to OT.  Then Kane, who has played phenomenally the past 2 games, shot the puck perfectly past Quick to give the hawks the lead 4-3 with about 3 minutes left. The place erupted!!!  I know white men can’t jump, but I think I could have dunked the ball as I jumped out of my chair and began high fiving every hawks fan within reach.  Screaming at the top of my lungs, I celebrated that goal in rare form. That one will be remembered.

He did it. We did it. Game 7 here we come. We needed to win one game in LA, and we did. With home ice back in our possession, we head back to Chicago for what I’m sure will be another thrill ride Sunday night. I have 2 days to get my voice back.

MVP of this game has to be Kane. To actually score a goal on our power play on the road was an accomplishment in itself.  To net a game winner in the biggest game to date this postseason, was the cherry on top.  How beautiful was that goal?  Circling around to the blue line then into open ice, Kane did a move we’ve seen him do 100 times. This time he did not get the puck poke checked away. He did not get his shot blocked. He did not miss. He rifled it over quick’s right shoulder and into the back of the net. Goal!!!  A beautiful thing.

What will the hawks do for an encore?  What they have to do. That is, go out and win game 7 and get back to the finals. Confidence is flowing. Mojo is back.  Business is unfinished.  All this turns out to be less great unless they finish the job. Win game 7, this series becomes all time.

As I walked victoriously away from the sportsbook, on the phone with my brother in Arizona, hugging some random hawks fan, going back to flamingo to collect my modest winnings, I couldn’t be happier. They did it again. They thrilled us and delivered the win. Do it one more time. Thrill us one more time & win game 7.  Let’s make history. Go hawks!

How sweet it is! WOW! The roller coaster ride continues, and I’m along for it with no hands! My journey took me and the family to Arizona where I found myself alone in an unfamiliar bar with my Hawks jersey on trying to root them on to victory. The nba finals were on as well, but it seemed like people could care less about hockey. I could care less about that as I just wanted a tv to watch the game. LA fans came out of the blue further down the bar as they took the lead in 3rd. I was fuming at this point and sitting next to a diehard ranger fan from the bronx who wanted the Hawks to win so that they could lose to his “best” city, “best” pizza, “best” hockey team in the world claim. After Keith’s game tying goal, I was high fiving him and the owner of the place, who was from winnipeg and a jets fan. This quieted the la fans, and when kane scored the game winner, I found myself fist pumping in their direction! SHOWTIME baby! As the seconds ticked down, I was texting family waiting for me wanting updates. Game 7 Sunday night…HAWKS WIN…was my last text to them. The roller coaster ride continues then, and I will be somewhere watching and hoping that the Hawks show the series long “resolve” that the la team has been credited with all series. We’ve come this far, now it is time to FINISH Hawks! Close la out and send us on one last ride to the Stanley Cup Finals! GO HAWKS!!!
