November 1, 2020: Ugly

If I had to choose one word to describe the Bears loss on Sunday vs the Saints, that’s easy; ugly… ugly, ugly, ugly. Yet as ugly and painful as that game was, especially in the 2nd half, the Bears still had a shot to win. They had a shot to win a game they had no business winning; this is how they’ve got to the 5-2, now 5-3 record. Regardless of the outcome of this one, you still could have used the world “ugly” to describe it; there’s a thin line between winning ugly and losing ugly… the Bears have been on the wrong side of that line the past 2 weeks.

Watching a game like that takes a lot out of you… The game was going just fine. Even with the BS, too easy TD given up just before the half, I felt pretty good up 13-10 at the half. I don’t know what happened at halftime… the Bears got drunk, high, or were on the phone with Papa Vegas… but when they took the field in the 2nd half, all of the ugliness that is the 2020 Bears was on display. The stupid plays, the sacks, giving up big plays, the penalties, the dropped passes… it was like they forgot how to play football. Somehow they were able to tie the game and painfully send this one to OT. Even though we lost the toss, we STILL had a chance to pull this one out of the gutter, but… I thought I would feel worse after they officially lost on that FG, but I think I just felt better because that shit show of a game was over… That, was, brutal…

And here we go again… more of the same… fire Nagy, fire Pace, dump Foles, bring in Mitch, change the play caller, start losing for a better draft pick… We’ve heard it all before. I’m not going to sit here and tell you I know what we need to do, but… I do have some thoughts.

Bring back in Mitch: this is the easiest move to make. And yes, I know, we’ve seen this movie before; Mitch is gone after this year. Unfortunately, Foles will most likely be our starter NEXT year as well. But going back to my point earlier this year; one I have mentioned many times. There should be ONE thing that is most important every week: win, period. That’s the Bears, team, winning; that’s most important to me. I don’t care who plays QB… seriously, I don’t. Bring back Doug Flutie; I don’t give a shit. If that means we have a better chance to win, then so be it. The way I see it, with our offensive line play, with the fact that Foles never steps up in the pocket and has zero mobility, playing Mitch may in fact give us a better chance to win; scary, I know. Again, this isn’t a play for the future; it’s a play for the right now. I don’t care if you bring him in 1 series and see what happens. Rotate them quarterly. Don’t announce a starting QB any week. Do whatever it takes to win that game that week. I think bringing Mitch in either of the past two weeks in relief could have made things better; it couldn’t be much worse.

The quick pull was there for Mitch initially, and yes, it really wasn’t a quick pull. We’ve seen him play like that for a year plus. But does that mean, don’t look back? Sometimes we may need to look back to take a step ahead. Unfortunately, the QB of our future is not on this roster right now; we’re not going to find him this year. We’re not going to improve the offensive line much this year either; well, maybe a bit??? So switching up QBs whenever we feel the need, may give us some kind of competitive advantage? Two average QBs are better than one type thinking? I don’t know. I don’t know what else to say. We’re living in the same QB purgatory we’ve been in most of our lives. And it’s not all about the QB, and changing it up at that position may not help one bit, but I think we’re hurting ourselves by not at least trying. We worried about Mitch taking off and playing great… about what position that puts us in? Heck, if he plays great, great! We worry about next year after THIS year. We have a good enough defense to make some noise NOW. Thinking outside of the box… WAY outside the box… may be the only way to make this season mean something. As far as more thoughts from Sunday’s game…
