November 22, 2020: Best Bye Week Ever

posted in: Bears | 0

It was a Sunday without stress, an NFL football week without worrying about the Bears winning. It was… refreshing. I saw that the Lions had got shutout, but didn’t tune into any football until late Sunday; I was flipping on and off the Colts Packers game… then I turned it off. About 30 minutes later, I turned it back on… just in time for the start of OT; it was perfect timing. To see the Packers blow it was a really good feeling. Then I saw the Vikings lost too… So the NFC North was 0-3 today?!?! AND the Bears didn’t lose either?!?! Best bye week ever!!!

Of course this provides a glimmer of hope for our boys. I saw somebody that said if the Bears win out, they win the division. Ha… ha… ha… Almost got me… I’m ready to throw some hope around at the drop of the hat, believe me. If the Bears have a chance, I’m in. I take full advantage of every mathematical possibility. I do believe that anything can happen. I just don’t think anything is going to happen with the Bears this year… not on offense. This brings us back to the defense. Will they help us win another game or two this year? Sure, maybe. They cannot do it all, period. Without an offense, we’re toast.

When we return to the field next Sunday night at Lambeau, a Bears win would pull us within 1 game of first place; it sounds good. The reality though is a lot bleaker. An offense that is only rivaled by the Jets when it comes to ineptness, even if we did hold Aaron and the cheese to 2 TDs, it won’t be enough. I saw somebody else throw out some Rodgers’ numbers after a loss, and it wasn’t pretty. But screw him… and screw the Packers. The hate for them is always there, and I really, really, really would love to see the Bears beat them. I still can’t see it though.

Sorry to bring it back down to earth after an awesome Sunday. Well, it wasn’t that awesome. I did lose my matchup of the two first place teams in my big fantasy league. Who would have thought that it would have been my defense that cost me… or should I say, the one I didn’t play. I talked about my multi-defense strategy, so I did have options; I never thought to play Cleveland over Miami, but that would have meant a win. Instead, I drop down a notch. In my other league, I looked to be in trouble until some late points from Mahomes. Still not out of the woods, as my opponent has one player left on Monday night… a defense of course. It would be appropriate to lose both games because of defenses… but that’s OK. Seeing everybody lose in the Bears division… seeing the Packers lose makes it all better.

Yeah, let’s end this on a high note. The Packers lost! Yeah, that’s it. Many a seasons this has provided happiness; many times this is what an NFL season has become. Rooting for the Packers to lose is a great tradition; seeing it happen is sweet. Next week will provide an intersection of the two things I most like to see happen… A Bears win would mean a Packers loss. That brings a smile to my face, even if it feels like a pipe dream. Never let go of your dreams…
