November 23, 2023: Chicago Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Here in Chicago, we have so much to be thankful for with our sports teams, right? Let me take you there.

Let’s start with the Bears. We’re thankful for improved play from our boys in the past few weeks. It hasn’t quite translated to consistent winning yet, and we’re still figuring out if Fields is our future, and Eberflus is not helping his case in the effort, but yeah, the Bears have been playing better, and for that I’m thankful. What’s the word with Arlington Height btw?

The Bulls… this is going to be a tough one. I’m thankful for the 6 titles in the 90s, and for the opportunity to watch MJ play every single night. As a Bulls fan, I’ve already seen more than most fans of any team will ever see; this stuff still carries the franchise and its popularity to this day, although attendance is down a bit… Yeah… I’m excited to see a brand new Bulls team sometime soon, one that will help get us out of neutral (while slowly sliding downhill), and point us back in the right direction.

As for the Blackhawks, let’s be thankful for Connor Bedard, again, and again, and again. Yes, he looks to be the real deal, and while he learns the pro game, the Hawks will hopefully build around him, and start to get more points on the ice. Out of all the teams in season, the Hawks, although the record doesn’t say it yet, have the most promise. Ready for another run for Stanley in the next few years. They are leading their UC brethren in the race to #7.

How about those Cubbies? Thankful that Ross is gone (and Stroman opted out and Heyward’s contract is finally off the books), and we have a new skipper, one that shows us the Cubs are serious again about winning; that’s a great thing. Excited to see what players the Cubs will add; will we see Ohtani at Wrigley this year, and no, NOT in a Dodgers uniform. Who else will join the Cubbies on their quest to get back to the postseason?

The Sox… I thought the Bulls were tough. Let’s just say I’m thankful I’m a Cubs fan; how about that? Brutal, brutal stuff from the south side…

We all know it’s been tough sledding in Chicago sports, but the great thing about it… there’s always that next game; there’s always next year. And for us die-hard Chicago fans, we just go with the flow… the ups, the downs, waiting for that next up… always cheering on our teams, even if that includes cussing them out and/or booing them from time to time; we can do that. We look for the silver lining, knowing that we were fans before the BS, and we’ll be fans after the BS; we’re here regardless of who is running the show, who is wearing the unis. I’m thankful that I have MY teams, and that there is never another choice. Here to stay… not going anywhere… what’s next?
