November 6, 2020: Week 9 Preview Bears at Titans

posted in: Bears | 0

As offensive linemen continue to drop for the Bears due to injury or COVID or both, the chances of improvement in that area are slim. Although, if it was so crappy to start with, will an influx of new blood on the line hurt? Could it actually lead to better protection for Foles, and better run blocking for Montgomery? Doubt it.

The Bears win enter Sunday’s game (if they play it, which I’m sure they will, because COVID or not the NFL will move forward) as 6.5 point underdogs; that feels about right. Although not sure what to make of the Titans losing last week to the Bengals… What the heck was that all about? I think the Titans have a chance to be in the Super Bowl, which may not mean a whole hell of a lot, because I think the Bears have a chance too. Although the last 2 weeks have certainly put a damper on that fantasy… Really, with the offense we’ve witnessed all year, outside of a few quarters, there is no possibility of the Bears going anywhere; I understand that. I did say the offense will have to improve for the Bears to do anything… so far, no go. Will Sunday be any different?

Surprisingly, the Titans are very average when it comes to defense; I thought they were a lot better. In fact, against the pass, they are really bad. They have only 7 sacks all year, which is good for 2nd worst in the NFL. Don’t worry, we’ll help them up that total. They are pretty good at creating turnovers though; 3 better than the Bears in fact. That coupled with the 2nd fewest giveaways in the league, means the turnover battle will be key, as it is in most games. How many times will Foles throw off his back foot to nobody in particular? Feels like I’ve asked that question before about another Bears QB, who by the way, got injured in the one play he got into the other day vs the Saints. Yes, maybe you missed it when you went to take a piss or grab some more beer and/or chips, but yes, Mitch was in there for one play where he hurt himself. All the “put Mitch in” ideas can be discarded for now. By the way, did you know the Bears haven’t lost 1 fumble this year? The only team in the NFL that can say that… how you like them apples?

Although the Bears did lose last week vs the Saints, they did cover, for any fans that had some cheddar riding on them. I think this will be another close game. Unfortunately, the trend has turned from winning ugly to losing ugly. Any way you look at it, it’s been ugly. Foles will do better this game, although he will turn it over again, which will directly lead to points for the Titans. The defense will play well, but will not be able to generate any turnovers or points, which is what will be needed to pull this one out. How many more weeks until our bye week? Bear Down!!!
