November 8, 2020: The Ugly Offense

posted in: Bears | 0

It’s how I described last week’s game; it’s how you can describe most Bears games this year, whether win or lose. It’s an accurate way to describe what happens, or what doesn’t happen, game in and game out on one side of the ball. Yes, the ugly offense reared its head again, leading us to another loss.

Kind of running out of words here… well, OK, never that, but I mean, it’s like a broken record watching the Bears each week. Another way to describe it is painful, like a 3 hour dental procedure. You may feel better after this procedure because the problem is taken care of, just like you may feel better after the Bears game if they win, or you may feel worse, and still in pain, just like after a Bears loss. Either way, you’re in that chair, taking it… or not. I know a number of folks that would rather tune into Red Zone than stick on the Bears; I’m not there… yet. I’m a glutton for punishment. Yet, I wasn’t in a hurry to come back downstairs to watch the game after halftime; I was enjoying my lunch. When I came back, it was more of the same; I was ready to go outside and play football with my son. We stuck it out though… and didn’t go outside until after it was official, but my God… where to start with the frustration?

It was bad enough that we couldn’t do shit on offense until garbage time; it was even worse that we gave them a TD too. The defense is trying their best to carry us with minimal support from the offense in general; our offense giving the other team a TD adds insult to injury. I know the line sucks; I know it was worse Sunday due to the guys in there. I know without an offensive line, you can’t accomplish much regardless of the QB, play caller, RB, WRs, TE… But, I’m sorry… Foles is very unimpressive. It’s like watching Trubisky all over again, only this time, we have a guy who resists moving around in the pocket, or even daring to cross the line of scrimmage, because of his lack of mobility. Seeing what ANOTHER QB does with this offense, makes me miss Mitch… and that is really saying something. Crazy how he got hurt in the one play he was in last week… I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing him thrown back in there, regardless of his future with the team. We’ve been over that.

I just don’t know what to do. You want to change the play caller? They can’t do worse than Nagy is the thought process maybe? Maybe. I’m up for whatever too. You want to fire Nagy? 25-14 as Bears coach over 2+ years isn’t shabby, but aren’t you supposed to be getting better not worse? 2018 feels like another lifetime ago. How about Pace? He’s the guy putting the roster together to take the field. I’m thinking he deserves his fair share of blame; plenty of it to go around. Swinging and missing at the most important position in the game sure seems like enough to make a decision there, regardless of all the other hits and misses. Do we need a new RB, WR, and TE? Tough for a running back to beat 3 guys each play. Tough for a WR to run an effective route when there isn’t enough time. I thought we just drafted a TE… We’re in a bad place right now…

Or are we? With a 5-4 record, and only one more winning team on the schedule, the season is certainly not lost. If our offense continues to look like this, it might as well be. We keep waiting, and waiting, and waiting for something to change on that side of the ball; we hate to waste another great defensive team. In this week to week league, these last 3 weeks have felt like a year. One win next week, just one win, before heading into the bye week would do absolute wonders right now. Another loss??? We can beat the Vikings, right? Bear down….
