October 1, 2021: Week 4 Preview Lions at Bears

posted in: Bears | 0

Whew… finally going to get back on the field again, after walking through a shit storm this past week post the game from hell in Cleveland. Whenever you’re feeling down and out, and feeling like the season is over, there’s nothing better to cheer you up than a date with the Detroit Lions. I’m hoping this still holds true.

Papa Vegas isn’t that confident in us though… Starting us as only 5 point favorites, then seeing it get bet down to only -3?!!? I’m a little bit worried. Of course, some of this may be the perception that Detroit is pissed after losing another gut wrencher last week to Baltimore AND the perception that the Bears suck so bad on offense after the toilet flush on Sunday in Cleveland. Maybe the combination of this perception is good, and will lead to a blowout in Chicago??? The Bears way of course… Here’s hoping. I told my buddy I would be jumping in the lake if the Bears don’t beat the Lions…

I won’t have to worry about that. Nagy may be coaching for his job this Sunday, after everyone started up the FIRE NAGY parade this week. Ah, reminds me of the good old FIRE GARPAX days… Is it completely fair or not to Nagy? Been thinking about that a bit… I’ve been a Nagy defender for the most part, mainly for the reason that the Bears made the playoffs 2 out of 3 years under him; that’s a pretty good ratio. I liked him when he first came aboard; he seemed to be a perfect fit here in Chicago. Of course, the whole “offensive mastermind” may have been blowing a little smoke up our ass, because I certainly haven’t seen that. Again, not blaming Nagy for Trubisky by any means; Mitch had his chances… but now that he’s gone, and now that the new guy is here, who should be MUCH better than Mitch, the pressure is on… the pressure is on for Nagy to make this work. Fields will get the benefit of the doubt for a while I think, again right or wrong, that’s how it’s going to be. Thus, we look to Nagy. This may not be totally fair IF he wasn’t calling the plays… but HE IS! Why is the head coach doing the job of the offensive coordinator??? Haven’t we learned this lesson already? And thus brings another reason to look at Nagy; HE is making the decision to call the plays… which I guess gives him one more possible job saving out… if shit hits the fan again, he turns over the play calling again… sounds like he may have already done that. OK, that was a mouthful…

If Nagy relinquishes the play calling duties, he saves his ass… for now. But shouldn’t this have been the way it was to start with? Nagy hasn’t blown the doors off any team as OC, so let the person whose job title that is, actually do their job; novel concept… I didn’t realize how deep I’d be going down this rabbit hole, but here we are.

Let’s bring it back to Sunday and those ferocious Lions. We’re going to beat them; we’re going to beat a bad team, and pump the brakes on waving the white flag for the year. Heck, if we strung a win or two together, we may be back to thinking playoffs… haha. This is the week to week life in the NFL, where you have countless shows breaking down each and every game, overreacting to everything positive and negative. What is the real deal?

Final Score Prediction: Bears 27 Lions 16

Ace in the Hole: Justin Fields (I’m going to keep picking him until he is) 3 total TDs

But wait… is Justin Fields even starting? Practicing with a brace on his throwing hand this week, with Dalton’s gimpy ass trying to give it a go, and Foles statuesque self prying his way in the mix. Shit, we even brought a couple more QBs to look at… everything is going to be OK, everything is going to be OK. Let’s F-ing do this! Bear Down!!!
