October 2, 2020: Week 4 Preview Colts at Bears

posted in: Bears | 0

OK, let’s squeeze this in between playoff games… or maybe before I write my goodbye to the Cubs season? I’ll tell you what. I wasn’t feeling that good after Game 1 and all day yesterday; this morning… I feel a bit more confident. Anyways, onto the Bears. Did you know they were undefeated? Of course, we all know this. The 3-0 juggernaut Chicago Bears will welcome a real team to Soldier Field on Sunday; well, at the very least, the Colts are better than anybody we’ve faced this year, agreed?

Papa Vegas likes the Colts to beat us, as they did with the Lions and Falcons; it’s Colts -2.5 over the Bears on Sunday. My initial thought is that this will be a very close game. Old man Rivers… I thought he may have been a good short-term fit for our QB needs this offseason. He ended up going to the Colts, which would have never been an option had Luck decided to stick around. Imagine how good the Colts would be if he was there? Well, he’s not, and that’s OK with me. Looking at the QBs we’ve faced…Stafford, Daniel Jones, and Matty Ice, where does Rivers fall in there? Of course, the Colts are not just Rivers. They have a good defense and a good offensive line. The Bears defense against the run will be tested on Sunday; this is probably my biggest concern.

Speaking of QBs… it’s Nick Foles time! Let me just clarify one time, as if I haven’t said it enough. I don’t care who the Bears QB is, as long as we’re winning. We were 2-0 with Trubisky, so I was good. Surprising, but turned out to be a very good move on Sunday by Nagy. Foles help us stay undefeated, so I’m good with him too. If you listen to the national media, which I don’t, the Bears still need to prove themselves by beating some good teams, like the Colts this week and the Bucs next week. I would also like to see how they stack up against two better teams, but I do know this. Being undefeated, winning 3 games and not playing our best yet, is pretty good. As long as there is a “best” to come… Will Foles help bring that out of us? How about that run D? And hate to mention it, how about our kicker? The Bears are far from perfect, but in the standings we are…

Ace in the Hole: Who else… Nick Foles dammit. 3 TD passes.

Yes, after Sunday’s game, we will feel better about the QB situation; maybe you already do. Thing is, Foles gets hurt; one of the few plays I saw from last week was him getting nailed on that final throw. The Bears offensive line is good, but not “protecting Tom Brady” good. Foles will get hit; we may have not seen the last of Trubisky. We may see a mix of these guys throughout the season… or maybe Foles will stay healthy and run with it, leading us into the playoffs. Either way you cut it, if we’re putting up more Ws than Ls, I’m a happy camper. Let’s shut some people up this Sunday. Bear Down!!!
