October 20, 2020: Series Set

Well, I guess we’ll have to wait a year for that Chicago-Chicago World Series; in reality, it may be much longer than that. As the Cubs face a ton of questions this offseason, the Sox are prepared to make that next jump. These two teams destined to meet in the World Series again at some point, now just seem like two ships passing in the night. OK, got that out of the way. Meanwhile, the World Series is set: Los Angeles Dodgers vs Tampa Bay Rays.

Like I said, I was getting used to the idea that it was going to be Dodgers Astros, a rematch of the 2017 World Series. Now that it’s only the Rays, it seems like a buzzkill. But the Rays were the best team in the AL all year long right? And if the Dodgers enter this series feeling that way, they’re going to get stomped. You would think the Dodgers wouldn’t underestimate them, considering how close they’ve been. 3 World Series appearances in the past 4 years; they really need to win this one. All the pressure has to be on the side of the Dodgers; having all this success, going to multiple Series, and coming away empty handed? That reminds me of those great Buffalo Bills teams.

I think the Dodgers will finally do it. The addition of Mookie Betts cannot be underestimated. Boston let him walk, and LA paid the man his money. From the looks of it, he is worth every cent. Finally, the Dodgers have the piece that will push them over the top. I didn’t realize how great he was in the field. I knew he could swing it, but man, he can catch it too. The guy is a stud, no doubt about it.

I thought I’d be more upset that the Dodgers advanced. I initially wanted Braves and Rays, then started getting excited about Dodgers Astros, knowing I would be forced to root for the Dodgers in that one. But the Rays made it, so easy right? Go Rays??? Well, yes, but… the hate that I have for the Dodgers has died down a bit. It’s died down to the point that I wouldn’t mind seeing them win for the first time in 32 years. You know I’m a sucker for breaking droughts, although this “drought” isn’t nearly as long as the one we saw broken here in Chicago. I like Mookie, Kershaw, Seager… Not really crazy about Turner, Bellinger, Kike, or anybody else… well, Jensen seems like a good dude. Yes, my hate for LA teams in general, coupled with the fact that one of their teams just won it all, is still pointing me towards the Rays, but I won’t be as upset as I thought if the Dodgers do finally win it. After all, Tampa Bay had a championship team already this year too…

The fact that I’m still watching baseball is cool. I’ve tuned out at times over the years when the Cubs have been knocked out, and/or aren’t involved. But I love baseball… that team name Dodgers brings back a lot of good memories… growing up playing for that team for 7 years. I am conflicted no doubt. I guess that’s OK. I just hope for an exciting series. If it’s half as exciting as both of the LCS series, we should be in for some fun. It all starts tonight. Enjoy!
