Although I prefer the good old Sunday noon start time, playing under the Monday night lights is different. Even though I’m older, even though there’s a ton of other things going on, even though COVID has taken a stranglehold on 2020, I love that I still have that anxiety about watching the Bears play on Monday night. It’s still hard to focus on other stuff, like stuff at work, more than just a normal Monday, when the Bears are playing on MNF. It’s barely noon time, but I’m ready already.
At one point in my life, I would be cracking a beer right now in preparation; I feel like cracking one today. I am already in gameday attire, rocking my McMahon jersey that I got for Christmas last year. Now my jersey roster sits at Payton, Butkus, Urlacher, and McMahon. If any I’d like to add, it would be a defensive player from that 85 team; Dent would be cool. My son started looking at the Target and Amazon Christmas books; there’s a Patrick Mahomes jersey in there that he liked. I’ve always told my son he could root for other players and teams, as long as he knows who’s number one. As far as jerseys go, I refuse to buy him a jersey of any other team. I told him when he gets older and he wants to buy himself one, then go for it; I had other non-Chicago team jerseys during my late teens-early 20s, going through the “jerseys because they look cool” phase. I don’t mind buying him a t-shirt with Mahomes or any other player he likes on there, but I will only be spending my money on jerseys of the Chicago Bear variety for my son. With all those folks continuing to doubt us, picking against us… I think the defense eats that shit up. The offense needs to get it together, but the defense… they have it together; I expect them to be flying around tonight. I expect another Bears win tonight. Already the #1 team in the NFC due to the Seahawks loss last night, 6-1 atop the NFC, almost halfway through the season… yeah, I likey. Bear Down!!!
