October 26, 2023: No Bet Thursday

I can’t believe it myself… Thursday was the first day in I want to say in months that I didn’t bet on any games; crazy! Yes, it was “No Bet Thursday” for this here degenerate… what the heck did I do with myself?

I’m tired…. been a long week. I didn’t NOT bet because I didn’t want to, trust me. I didn’t bet because I wasn’t really locked on any of the action, which is saying something, because of the NFL game that took place. I was back and forth on this one all week. Initially, I was on the Bills… then I bounced to the Bucs; I felt pretty confident that the Bills would win the game, just wasn’t sure how Vegas would play out the cover. Turns out, I was spot on. The Bucs had a ridiculous back door cover which included a 2 point conversion for no apparent reason but to knock out anybody who bet it down to 6.5; there is no explanation for that, I’m sorry. If you don’t think there is some scripting involved here, I really don’t know what to tell you. Yeah, I just wasn’t sure which side it was going to break, so I stood away; another sign of growth?!?

I don’t want to force games; I shouldn’t have to. With action every single day of the year practically, it’s OK that I miss a day, or two, or hell, even a week; I’ll survive. There will always be more opportunities to win (and lose) money. Sometimes I feel like I’m going to miss something… stupid. The mental aspect of this thing is harder than anything else; I’ve already preached the discipline… is it ever something you truly master? I think I need to read some books about this… some first hand takes on trying to win at sports betting. I will tell you this: there is nothing better than going through it though… the feelings, the urges, the ups, the downs… it’s not for the faint of heart, let me tell you. I feel like I’m managing through this, but hey, my units are still very low dollar amounts. Eventually, I want to graduate to larger amounts, and make some real money; I guess I’m still not ready for this.

I don’t want to rush it. I want to make sure to not miss a step. I have to learn every lesson, and relearn it, and learn it again… soak it in, so it becomes second nature; skipping a day of action, I believe, is a healthy part of this process. Taking my head out of the book… walking away from the tough math problem… coming back to it refreshed. Yes, that makes a lot of sense. For the record, I was looking at the Lakers, who didn’t cover depending on the line you got, and Virginia Tech, who did… the Penguins, who did cover, and the Red Wings, who did not. So what did I really miss?

It’ll be OK, really. After all, did you see Friday’s slate?!?! NHL, NBA, College Football, and the start of the World Series… oh where oh where do we begin? I think I’ll figure something out… Good luck to us!
