October 29, 2020: Mitch Time

Yeah, yeah… I know. Putting Mitch Trubisky back behind center probably would not help anything… probably. But, you have to wonder. I mean, it can’t get any worse, right? If the Bears offense with Foles at QB continues to struggle, if Nagy has tried everything else he could try with no success, then I think it should be Mitch time again; crazy? Maybe.

Crazy is continuing to have to endure this pathetic offense. All we did was complain about Trubisky, so a change was made; I was fine with it. I wasn’t whining. Nagy did what he felt was best for the team; that’s what he’s getting paid to do. What I had recommended at the time, considering the QB predicament we’re in, having 2 guys who are overall average, was to ride the hot hand. This riding of the hot hand could take place week to week; it could take place quarter to quarter. Shit, if you really wanted crazy, change it up every series if necessary. At the very least, you’re giving the defense something else to think about, even if it’s smoke and mirrors. This may be the only thing we have to throw off the opposing defense, because nothing to this point has. Why do we have to follow the traditional script? Name a starting QB and ride that pony, OR make a change at QB and don’t look back. BS! If doing what is best for the team is the number one priority for Nagy, then contemplating a QB change and/or a QB musical chair should be part of his thinking. Why not?

Yes, another part of his thinking may be to let the offensive coordinator do what he gets paid to do and call the plays. Nagy has been getting dragged through the mud this week after another dud, this time on national TV, this time resulting in a loss. Just like it wasn’t all on Mitch, just like it’s not all on Nick, it’s not ALL on Nagy, but if there is anybody who has the power to make this better, it’s him. We know our QBs are just OK; we know our offensive line sucks. What are we going to do about it? It certainly doesn’t look like Pace is going to go out and bring some help in. So where does that leave us? Nagy needs to figure out how to get this offense working with all the harsh truths that we’re dealing with. He was supposed to be an offensive genius. If he was truly a genius, then he should be able to make this work, regardless of everything else. Figure out a way; there is no other choice. Well, there is, but… nobody wants to continue to fail week in and week out on the offensive side of the ball, wasting away another very talented defense.

So if all else fails, if nothing else is working, then bringing Mitch back in at QB should be an option; we cannot afford to close the door on ANY option. It doesn’t mean he’ll start the following week; all it means is that we’re trying to do something to win THIS week. That’s what it’s all about, no? We know he can scramble; we know Nick cannot. Trubisky’s elusiveness was one of his best qualities back in 2018; it was one that was not very much on display last year. Giving the offense another dimension, shit, giving the offense ANY dimension is worth a shot. We need to try anything and everything to get this offense going. Good luck Nagy. Good luck to us all; Bear Down!
