October 3, 2021: Doing the Minimum

posted in: Bears | 0

OK, I have to be fair, right? I try not to get too, too low after a loss; I’m not going to get too crazy after a win. Heck yeah it felt good, shit, winning always does. But let’s be honest here: beating the Lions is like doing the minimum. If you can’t beat the Lions in your home stadium, you might as well pack it up.

Yeah, those Lions… they sure had a lot of fight in them. All those red zone snaps that Gus Johnson and the new worst announcer of the week kept telling us about. They didn’t give up; I will say that. Look, I got nothing against the Lions. I know they’re in our division and all, and we play them more than enough to build up hate against them… I just don’t feel it; same for the Vikings. The Packers, well, that’s another story, but back to the Lions. Low key, I wouldn’t mind seeing them win it all one day; I can relate to those die hard Lions fans who are going through it year in year out… waiting for their day. Shit, I’ve waited 35 years now for another Super Bowl… I know, it’s no comparison, but I am a Cubs fan too, so… I do get it. So one day when the Bears suck and have no chance, I will not mind seeing the Lions get their day in the sun… but not today.

No, it was the same old Lions, who yeah, after putting together decent drives, just couldn’t get it done. The Bears defense was bend but not break; I’m good with that. But the offense… yeah, that’s why it’s hard NOT to get too high after this win, because of what we saw on that side of the ball. It’s more than just beating the division doormat. It’s about getting a glimpse into our future; it’s about seeing what could be our franchise QB notch his first win as a starter. It’s seeing him do things that we don’t see Bears QBs do… ever. Another phenomenal fumble recovery is on the list. His spin out of a slam dunk sack. His other gear that he can shift into when he scrambles out of the pocket. His arm strength, and accuracy, on some throws MORE THAN 10 YARDS down the field. Who the hell is this guy? Haha… So yeah, if you see some excited Bears fans, that’s why; I’m right there with them.

Yet, we do need to keep an even keel; it’s not easy. But this week to week whiplash in the NFL, from firing our coach to continuing to put up with him, from fielding the worst offensive line in the league to seeing an impressive day in the trenches, from seeing a rookie struggle to seeing a franchise QB take his first steps, from waving the white flag to starting back up the march to the playoffs… it’s no joke man… haha. And being die hard, this roller coaster ride… you feel those ups and downs… you really do, but… I’m going to try; I’m going to try to keep it cool. So cool, that I sent a text to my die hard Raider fan buddy that “we’re coming for you next!” after the game… yeah buddy, the Bears are back!!!

OK, this didn’t work did it? Haha… But yeah, hey, we got a win, ho hum. We beat a team we should have beat; nothing to get excited about here. Let’s keep it moving. Then why do I feel like checking last minute ticket prices in Vegas and jumping in the car and driving west Friday night? Haha… winning is fun. Bear Down!!!
