October 30, 2019: First Timers

What a World Series. I know the ratings were down, but man, if you are a baseball fan, how could you not love this World Series? Well, I guess if you’re an Astros fan you may not have liked how it turned out. The Washington Nationals joined the first timers club on Wednesday night winning their first World Series in franchise history.

They deserved it. Couple crazy tidbits about this series were of course the fact that the road team won every single game for the first time in history; the other was how the Nationals fared in elimination games this postseason. It was something like 6 games that qualified, and in each of them they trailed; obviously they came back and won each one including the title clincher. Rendon’s late inning ABs were pretty amazing. Howie Kendrick for God’s sake! What about Adam Eaton? I wonder how Sox fans felt watching Chris Sale and Adam Eaton each play prominent roles in winning the past two World Series titles. Ah, it’s all good; they didn’t need those guys. They’re too busy rebuilding… How bad can I roll my eyes?

Yeah, the Cub fan in me enjoyed seeing another team win their first title. I also enjoyed seeing the Astros be denied their second. Yeah, I’m like that. Sorry not sorry. It’ll be interesting to see where some of the stars of this series end up next year; will any end up in Chicago? Cole is the top pitcher on the market, although I’m sure Strasburg will have something to say about that. If I was the Sox, I need to get one of those guys. They failed last year in the Harper and Machado sweepstakes; maybe that was a good thing? Now you have two big time arms out there. If last year wasn’t the time, this year surely is; they need to hit it big in FA. What about my Cubbies? Sure, I’d love to see either, but most likely it will be a Wheeler type added if any, in the starting rotation.

The other hot name will be Anthony Rendon; cue all the Kris Bryant haters. If Twitter were gospel, KB would be gone. That’s just crazy. Love Rendon and all, but come on. Bryant Baez and Rizzo should each by untouchable; anyone else can be disputed. But I’m not on that get rid of KB bandwagon, and I’m sure as hell not Theo. Another exciting thing about tonight is that the offseason officially starts; the countdown in Opening Day begins.

I will miss baseball; I have been missing Cubs baseball. We’ll have to wait about 5 months until its official return; I have a feeling it will be sooner than that for some noteworthy news. Congrats Nats; enjoy your one…I really appreciate everything you did this postseason. But go away now; it’s time for the return of the Cubs. 2020 here we come!
