October 30, 2020: Week 8 Preview Saints at Bears

posted in: Bears | 1

The NFL isn’t for the faint of heart. We’ve been through this before; we’ve been over this before. Win a game, and everybody is feeling good; the Bears are going to the Super Bowl! Lose a game, and all hell breaks loose; fire everybody! Lose a game and look horrible in doing so on MNF in front of the country… the season is over! Yes, the NFL truly is the whiplash league. Week to week we’re heading from one extreme to the next. After the Rams disaster on Monday, it’s been a rough week; the roller coaster has been speeding downhill. Ready to climb back up that hill; ready for the Bears to get back on the field and show some of the things that got them to this 5-2 record.

The Saints are favored; I wouldn’t think anything else. Opening at -3, bumping up to -4.5; shouldn’t it be more? People already had their impressions about the Bears before this past game; this past game only proved what everybody thought. How will this Bears team win another game all year? How will they be able to beat the Saints? It won’t happen… right? We’re not giving up on our boys, are we? I brought home the football picks this week; my son has completely taken over the picks this year. It’s been a rough couple weeks with the picks, so we did do a more detailed review last week; it didn’t help. After the Bears got smoked, going up against a team that he knows about… Brees, Kamara; my son was thinking about picking the Saints. He didn’t. He held strong. He still has the faith. Shouldn’t we keep the faith too?

Well, you know me; hell yes. The Bears ARE a good team; that doesn’t change after one loss. And for however bad they’ve looked this year on the offensive side of the ball, they’ve looked just as good on defense. Our defense will win us games; they will keep us in games. And when playing against a team that doesn’t have a great defense, like the Rams, like the Colts, the Bears will be in the game; hey, the Bucs had a great defense and we beat them… was that just the Foles being Brady’s daddy effect? Yes, the Bears did beat the Bucs; seems like a long time ago, but it was only 2 weeks. So from the high point of the season to the low point, we need to try to stay level headed; we need to mentally prepare to deal with the highs and the lows. No matter how many times I say it, it’s not easy; our eyes surely help form our impression. You don’t have to be a football “expert” to see how bad the offense is; you don’t have to be an “expert” to know how bad the Bears looked on Monday. But that game is over. We have another chance to have some fun this week against the Saints.

It’s not going to get any easier. Saints this week, Titans next. We still have the Packers twice; the Vikings are on there too. Nobody is going to feel sorry for us; nobody is going to help us. The Bears need to figure it out. After this week, we’ll be feeling a lot better; yeah, the Bears are back… we can take on anybody. We made it back up the coaster… but there will be more dips ahead. You ready for this? I hope the Bears are. Bear Down!
