October 4, 2020: Confused

posted in: Bears | 0

I don’t even know where to start. Why did I waste 3 hours of my life watching this game? We wait all week, look forward to Sunday, for this? I thought the new QB was supposed to be the answer? Maybe everyone was right; 3-0 was a very misleading record for our Bears? I’m confused.

OK, let’s just say the Colts defense is good; are they that good? I swear we were playing the 85 Bears on Sunday. We couldn’t get anything going all game long until a garbage time TD scored against a prevent defense? I thought we had an offensive genius as a head coach… And we can’t muster up more than 3 legitimate points? I bet the Colts wish they could play us every week. I’m sure every other team’s defense will look forward to the same. Besides a couple great 4th quarters against the Lions and Falcons, where we scored 41 out of the 85 points we’ve scored ALL year… yeah, so about half of our points for the season came in 2 miraculous quarters… our offense sucks. So what is it? I thought it was the QB… we changed at that position, and… Will it be that we’re missing Tarik Cohen? I like the kid, but come on. Is it the offensive line? Are they that bad? What about the pass catchers? What exactly is it? Maybe the play calling?

The defense played well enough to win this game, holding the Colts to 1 TD and a handful of field goals. Yes, Mack did drop that one INT and Fuller wasn’t on top of his game, but the defense held its own. I thought we’d get shredded on the ground, but we did fine. Holding a team to under 20 points for the game should be good enough. But noooo…. this is the Bears we’re talking about here. It’s the same type of team we’ve rooted for most of our lives. It’s a team that has a defense that is light years ahead of the offense. Has it ever NOT been that way?

So where do we go from here? It’s only one loss; overall we’re still OK, but man… Do you think we have a chance against Tampa? After watching this game, I can understand if you feel the future looks bleak; I’m trying to stay positive…

You know what’s one thing I would have done… put Trubisky back in; hear me out. It’s not saying that Mitch will be our starter; NO… I’m not saying that. I’m just saying that if the offense is stuck in neutral, just like they were last week, then why not introduce a QB change to jolt the team; it worked last week. We can still announce Foles as our starter for next week; that’s fine. But for THIS game… in our best attempt to win THIS game, I don’t see why not. The Bears QB situation is not good, so Nagy must think outside the box; ride the hot hand. I’ll tell you one thing Mitch has over Nick… he can scramble; Nick is a statue. Again, not saying Mitch is better than Nick by any means, but by changing up the dynamic of the offense, on a day where nothing is going right, simply cannot hurt. So Mitch comes in and sucks… fine; we’ll never know. We do know what did happen. Again, if winning is the ultimate goal in 2020, as it should be every single week, then things may have to be a little unorthodox. If this makes people feel uncomfortable, oh well. Winning is the ultimate goal. Making a change at the most important position intra-game does not HAVE to mean any more than that.

Best case, we chalk this one up. The Colts D had our number this week. We get back to the drawing board for the Bucs game, where oh yeah, we may have to score like 28 points to win. Let’s see what happens. Bear Down…
