October 5, 2019: Saturday Night

Sitting here watching the Astros Rays game. Yeah, I’ve been watching the playoffs thus far. It’s funny, the people that say who’s going to watch the baseball playoffs when the NFL is rolling, the NHL is starting, and the NBA is coming. I love all sports, but baseball is my favorite. I wouldn’t watch a regular MLB playoff game over a Bears game, but would probably be switching during a Bulls or Hawks game. When I see Gerritt Cole dominating, and he is dominating, I remember when we met him in the wild card playoff game back in 2015. There was another pitcher at the top of his game that evening, as Jake outdueled him. I remember the Schwarbomb hit into the river off Cole too. I miss the Cubs playing right now.

Thinking about Cole, and another guy who pitched well in the postseason last night in Strasburg, they will both be free agents. Surely I would love to see the Cubs get one, but how about the Sox? After swinging and missing in the winter of Harper and Machado, the Sox better hit this year. It’s time to add that Lester type acquisition to their young club, as the Sox sit on the cusp of their open window. Yet, they still have Renteria. Is he the guy? With all the managerial openings, there will be plenty of new faces in new places. Will Renteria be replaced by Maddon again? Can you imagine? You see how it worked for the Cubs, yet I don’t think the Sox would do it, although I think Joe would be a great fit. No, the Sox will stick with their guy; at least he’s not Ventura.

How about that Blackhawks opener in Prague? I actually did know it was on Friday afternoon, but I get the feeling not many others did. They lost by the way. I’m excited to see how they fare this year. Just re-upped on DeBrincat. I heard it’s through 2023, which is the same time Toews and Kane’s contract ends. So you’re telling me 4 more years of the dynamic duo? One more cup too hopefully…

The Bulls will be starting soon, but my baby Bulls played their 2nd game today. We did do better. Still lost. This time it was 8-6. It was a great step for our team, and if we weren’t winning 6-4 with a minute left, I’d feel a lot better about it. I was still happy, but I was pissed.

Up next is our Bears. The first noon game all year, and it’s in London; go figure. Excited to watch our best chance at a championship take the field again. Chase Daniel at the helm is a bit scary, but so is our defense. Nagy’s play calling will be tested. Hopefully our defense will not be.

Listening to Girardi broadcast this game; hoping he’s the next Cubs manager. As long as he doesn’t pick his partner, AJ Piersynski, as his bench coach. How about him in the Sox dugout as part of Rick’s staff? I’m sure there would be plenty of fans who would love that. Then I see Maldonado bloop single home another run; so much for that ex-Cubs curse, although he was only here for a cup of coffee…and I don’t think there are any other curses still out there.

Fading now… Will be up bright and early tomorrow. Until then…have a good rest of your Saturday night.
