September 1, 2020: Sleep

You can never have enough sleep, right? It seems like no matter how much I sleep, I can always sleep more… like, fall asleep at the drop of a dime more. I got the whole sleep machine with the long ass hose which has helped dramatically; I don’t even know how I did it before that. But still, today, there are days when I can’t keep my damn eyes open. After getting my son to bed on Tuesday night, I sat down on the couch to watch the end of the Cubs game, and bam; couldn’t keep my eyes open. I had already seen the Pirates close the gap from 6-1 to 6-5, when I started fading; then they put the tarp on… rain delay. No chance I’m making it through this. I fell sound asleep on the couch.

When I woke up, it was the bottom of the 10th inning; the Cubs were up 7-6. The Pirates had a guy on third base with 1 out. Obviously the Pirates had tied up the game somehow, and here we were in extras. Our new left handed reliever Osich was on the mound. I thought he made a nice pitch and play on that tapper in front of the mound, but man, that guy flew in from 3rd base and scored the tying run. Jeffress came in and got us to the 11th.

About 4 hours ago Happ was hitting a lead off home run. In the 11th, he would get another hit, this time a go ahead single. Cubs up 8-7. How good has Happy been? I don’t even think I realized. They flashed up some stats on all the categories he leads the Cubs in; wow! Then I saw something on MLB network about the Cubs switch hitters with the most HRs all time; yep, Happ is that guy. We must not have had a lot of good switch hitters over the years… His total number is not that high. Anyways, Happ has been great for us, and ended up being the hero in the Cubs extra inning win on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh, which by the way, was the first Cubs 8-7 extra inning rain delayed win since…. yep, Game 7; I love Twitter for these types of tidbits.

Speaking of Twitter, I was reading about Rossy’s management of the pitching staff last night; people were unhappy. Glad I missed it. Overall, I thought he’s been pretty good in that department; that should be one of his strengths, considering his previous profession. This is pretty important by the way, you know, managing the pitching staff… knowing when to pull the starters, knowing when to keep them in, knowing how to use the bullpen, knowing who’s hot and who’s not. Out of all the stuff that is outside of the manager’s control, this is one thing that is squarely in his hands. I feel good with Ross when it comes to this. Hey, remember, he got kicked out when they brought Kimbrel in the other night for that blown save… haha.

OK, any win is a good win. Beating the MLB worst Pirates is a must. We need to keep stacking them up. It is September by the way, which even in this shortened season, is still the homestretch. Buckle up those seat belts Cubs fans. Go Cubs!
