September 10, 2021: Week 1 Preview Bears at Rams

posted in: Bears | 0

Well, well, well… here we are. The Bears are back! We’ll have to wait all day to see them on Sunday night, but they are back. Bears fans will travel with them to LA when they take the field to play the Rams; the city of Chicago will be watching. Everybody will be ready to see the much anticipated, first start, of… Andy Dalton? Welcome to the 2021 season.

Let’s start with the important stuff: the Rams are favored by 7.5 points. This is a very sharp line, let me tell you. I wonder what it would be if Fields was the starter? OK, let me not start. I’m not sure why everybody is on the Rams’ nuts this year. If anybody knows about their new starting QB, it’s us. Newsflash Rams fans: he ain’t much different than Goff. Sure, the Rams have a really good defense, but on offense… against a solid defense like the Bears will field… I don’t see it. I think this is going to be a close game, even with Dalton at QB.

Let’s get something else straight. No matter how much shit I talk about Dalton starting at QB, about the horrible decision that Nagy and company have made by starting the season off with Fields on the bench, I am rooting for the Bears to win. I will be rooting for Andy Dalton as well. I root for anybody that wears the Bears jersey on Sunday. I don’t care if they march out R Kelly at QB… well, ok, maybe a bad example, but you get what I’m saying, right? The same goes for all my teams. Certainly I have not liked guys over the years, a certain #6 comes to mind, but when it comes to gameday, I’m rooting for MY team and anybody who is playing for them. Same goes for the Red Rifle. I hope he makes me eat my words and leads us to a win in the opener. I’ve been wrong before; I’ll be wrong again.

I think the Bears defense is going to be good. The return of a Fangio-esque defensive game plan, with one of his disciples Desai at the helm, a strategy that the Bears executed to a tee, has me ready for good things from the D. Sure, I worry about the secondary a bit, but the front 7… I know we have some guys on the injury report; if any of those guys miss, it will hurt… but that front 7 when healthy will be good; I’m pretty sure about that. We can always count on the defense, no? For the most part, they do their part.

Of course, it always comes back to the offense. With the offensive line prowess in question, with a re-tread at QB, we may be watching a game that we have watched many, many times before. Defense plays great; offense can’t move the ball. Bears lose a close game on national TV. Like I said, I hope I’m wrong.

Final Score Prediction: Rams 19 Bears 13

Oh when oh when will Fields start, oh when oh when will he play? Wasting games in the NFL is not smart. Long term plan, yada, yada… sure… Put the best team on the field every week, period. Is Andy the best QB we have? I don’t think so, but… prove me wrong Andy! I’ll be rooting for you to do so. Bear Down!!!
