September 11, 2020: Week 1 Preview Bears at Lions

posted in: Bears | 0

Welcome back! Yes, maybe it feels like we’ve waited forever, or maybe it snuck up on us, but either way, there’s no denying, that the NFL is back, and this means, DA Bears are back! How you doing?

Well, more importantly, how are the Bears doing? According to a bunch of expert opinions that have been floating around, not too good apparently. The Bears have been picked to finish last in their division by a number of folks; really? I mean, yes, I wear those rose colored glasses, and I have a deep reservoir of hope for our boys every year, but even if I took those off for a second, it’s kind of hard for me to think our guys will finish in last place. One reason I can understand this is the QB position, the most important position in football. If you look around the NFC North, our QB situation is the worst? OK, I’ll give you Aaron Rodgers, but Kirk Cousins? He doesn’t get me too excited. Matthew Stafford? Well, considering he’ll be injured again after the first couple games, not so much either, which is a big blow to the Lions, considering he’s won all of ZERO playoff games. I don’t know… even Rodgers… he’s not the same right? I mean, if the Packers are already investing in his backup, they have to think his days are numbered. I can’t dismiss him until he’s officially gone, but… do we still need to fear him? OK, what about team defenses? I’ll give you the Vikings; they have been solid. I’m still not convinced they’re better than us. Definitely NOT going to give you the Packers and Lions. So yes, although the QB position at the Bears is questionable at best on the national level, it’s not really that much worse than the other guys, and if our defense is better…. what am I missing?

Understanding these preseason expert opinions, I guess the opening line of Detroit -3 over the Bears this Sunday makes sense… which makes me feel better. When I first saw that, I was like… back up the truck baby. But when something looks too good to be true, it usually isn’t. Then you see folks picking the Lions to finish first… wow, just wow. The Detroit fricking Lions, really? My God are people smoking some good shit nowadays. Is Barry Sanders walking through the door? I mean, if the Bears didn’t win the division, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Lions, considering the alternatives, but I certainly wouldn’t put a penny on it. These guys have won an NFL championship… actually, they’ve won 4! Yes, everybody knows about the zero Super Bowls, but hey, they’ve got 4 titles, and it’s only been 63 years since that’s happened. Like I’ve said, I certainly have no room to talk about droughts being a Cubs fan, and heck, nowadays, a Bears fan… it’s been 34 years since our lone Super Bowl win. We don’t have too much room to talk there, but we have won 4 in a row against the Lions… yes, even with our QB situation. That’s more relevant than the teams’ ancient history… or you’re telling me that doesn’t matter either. No, NO… you can’t tell me that Mitch doesn’t own these bastards! I was there, in person… I saw it back in 2018. It did happen. It will happen again… right?

Final Score Prediction: Bears 27 Lions 17

Ace in the Hole: Mitch Trubisky 3 TD passes

Hey… it’s game 1 and I’m going all in on Mitch… for this game. If the Bears lose this one, this season gets crazy really quick; I’m not quite ready for that… not yet. That’s not the reason I’m picking them… We’ve beat the Lions 4 straight. Home field advantage won’t mean as much this year. Kenny Golladay may not play Sunday, which is horrible for my fantasy teams, but great for the Bears. Mitch has played better against the Lions than any other team. Everybody is picking the Bears to finish last. Folks are picking the Lions to finish first. Add it all up and we’re starting off 1-0. Now to find somewhere I can place a bet on them… since it is legal to bet in Illinois nowadays… Bear Down!!!
