September 17, 2020: No Interest

OK, since we talked about the NBA, let’s give the NHL a quick spin. If I have an ounce of interest in the NBA playoffs because of Jimmy Butler and the chance for him to win the Finals and beat Lebron James in the process, I have no interest in the Stanley Cup Finals between the Dallas Stars and the Tampa Bay Lightning; that is the match up correct?

I was into the NHL playoffs… while the Blackhawks were still in it. Once they were eliminated, my attention would typically go to hoping the team that beat us gets whacked; that wasn’t the case this year. I didn’t build up any hate towards the Vegas Golden Knights; actually, I would have liked to see them win it all. At least Lehner got his extension, although I had a sliver of hope that the Hawks might have signed him. But instead, we’re left with Crow, who is not a bad consolation prize, but will be negotiating most likely a one year deal, that will probably not go well. Oh well… the Knights winning it all ended when the Stars (the Stars?) knocked them out; I guess they have a good team… On the other side of the bracket, was the Lightning and the Islanders; if I had to choose one, I would have chosen the Islanders; that didn’t happen either. Instead, we have a Stars Lightning in the what do you see when you look up in the sky matchup.

Nothing against either of these teams. If the Lightning had beat us back in 2015, a different story; they didn’t, so no hate. The Stars… no real feeling for them. I guess if you take it back in the day when they were the Minnesota North Stars, and if I was into hockey… and being into hockey I mean being able to watch hockey… when I was young, then I’m sure I would have built up some hate towards that franchise, as the rivalry between them and the Hawks was pretty strong back then. The stories I’ve heard, the YouTube highlights I’ve watched… yeah, because they are that same franchise and because I am a Blackhawks fan, maybe I should hate them… maybe not….

So good luck to both teams who will play in the year from hell 2020 Stanley Cup Finals that I will not watch. My choice for winner is… The Lightning actually did win 1 Cup, back in 2004, when they defeated the Flames in 7 game, which makes them 1-1 in Stanley Cup history, after losing to us in 2015. The Stars had their win back in 1999, when they beat the Sabres in 6; I actually do remember that series… there was some controversy or something, right? They lost the following year in 2000, as well as, 2 other years in 1981 & 1991; they’re 1-3 in their history. So both with 1 Stanley Cup… Dallas vs Tampa Bay… Stars vs Lightning… my choice for winner is… WGAF… you know what that means? Go Hawks!
