September 18, 2020: Week 2 Preview Giants at Bears

posted in: Bears | 0

Here we go. Week 2 is almost here. The Bears coming off a season opening win for the first time in a while, the Giants provide a great opportunity to add another one to start the season 2-0. What you say?

Papa Vegas says Bears -5.5. This was the line that came out after the Bears win and before the Giants game on Monday night. This line has sat here the whole week… no movement. 5.5 is always one of those weird numbers. Are we still giving home teams 3 points even without the true home field advantage this year? If that’s the case, then last week at Detroit was essentially a pick’em. If that’s the case, then this week vs New York, the Bears are only a 2.5 point favorite. I certainly think the Bears can beat the Giants, but will they cover?

The Bears won one they should have lost last week; I don’t think there are many that would disagree with that. Still, a win is a win, and regardless of how it came, we will take it and be happy about it. Now that Week 1 is in the rear view, we start over this week; the score is 0-0 again. How are we really feeling about this team? There was some drama this week with ARob… nice timing, although it seems like things are ok for right now. It didn’t help that the Rams announced a big, new contract for their wideout Robert Woods; $18M/year? And Allen Robinson is better than him, or no? Now we have an idea of what kind of deal we’re talking about. I know there’s been debate out there in the national media, but locally, I don’t think there’s much doubt that Allen is a WR1. He may not be the fastest or flashiest or most diva-ish, and that’s OK, especially the diva part. He’s got a pair of hands on him, along with his route running, considering he’s played with sub-par QBs… AND he still wants to be here… Pay the man his money.

Let’s just assume he’s all good; what about Quinn… and now Mack? I thought Mack was held a few times last week, and sure enough, saw some chatter about that this week. He has to be among the league leaders over the past couple seasons of players being held the most times. Come on… there has to be a stat for that. More importantly, why are the refs not calling it? Mack still garners a bunch of attention, but it sure would be nice to have our other guy, our new FA acquisition coming off the other end. It sure would be nice to have Goldman back too; anybody working on that?

When you think about the Giants nowadays, you certainly don’t think of their QB Daniel Jones, although he does have some weapons. You don’t think about the defense either, which is great for us. You think about Saquon Barkley. Did you see what he did last week? Yeah, zip; this worries me, especially seeing what old man Peterson did against us last week. This is one of the things that scares me a bit this week.

Final Score Prediction: Bears 31 Giants 27

Ace in the Hole: Bears defense 5 sacks, 2 turnovers, 1 TD

1 for 1 on predictions by the way; 1 for 1 on ace in the holes too… if you agree Mitch was that guy last week. He saved his and our asses with that 4th quarter. Hopefully Mitch can put together a more consistent effort in this one, and protect that ball. A few turnovers the wrong way, coupled with a few big plays by Barkley, could be trouble. Welcome back to Soldier Field. Bear Down!
