September 21, 2020: Odds and Ends

I feel like this should be a regular segment maybe… where I kind of take a quick spin around and comment on any number of things happening in the sports world, both national, local, and personal. I don’t know… maybe… anyways, here are some odds and ends.

You see who won the NBA MVP? You see who was crying about it? Now I didn’t watch the video or read everything he said because I would need a barf bag, but… is this guy a baby or what? So Giannis didn’t deserve it? If anything, there is one guy who should have received more consideration and that is Lebron’s teammate Anthony Davis. That should have been the real story here. What do you expect when you jump from team to team looking to ride with guys who can handle your business in the clutch? First it was Dwyane Wade, then Ray Allen, then Kyrie Irving, and now, Anthony Davis, who by the way, hit the shot to give the Lakers the 2-0 series lead over the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals. The MVP should be taking those type of shots; Lebron did not take it. I rest my case.

You see who’s winning the Stanley Cup Finals? Nah, me neither.

What about the Bears giving Tarik Cohen an extension? Well… I like him, I do. However, since 2018, the Bears really haven’t used him like I thought they would. I don’t know… even looking at the most recent example, this past week vs the Giants, how many touches did he get? And we’re paying how much for that? And we’re still waiting for our WR1 to get paid? I appreciate locking our guys up, and I do like Tarik; I just think he could be used a lot more for the money we paid him, no?

A common thing I see on Twitter is “I don’t care about your fantasy team”… I get it. I’m not in the business of reading how somebody else’s fantasy team is doing, but… some people may be interested in it. Some people may take what you have shared and use it to benefit their fantasy team in some way. If you don’t play fantasy, then ignore it; if you do play fantasy, and are saying that, then your team probably sucks anyways… By the way, since you asked, I came back in glorious fashion this past week to advance to the fantasy baseball finals this week. Not to brag or anything, but in 11 years, I’ve finished in the top three 7 times, winning it all 3 times… hopefully 4 after this year. My pickup of John Means on Friday night before his impressive performance vs the Rays was critical and provided me the points I needed to advance. Look him up!!!!

Finally, I had turned over making my weekly NFL football picks to my son last year; he did just as good as I would have. I have principles… like always picking the Bears and never picking the Packers… yeah, that hasn’t worked out so well. Anyways, this week he gets 13 of the first 14 games right; I was feeling pretty good about that. Then I find out that 2 people had gotten every one right?!?! WTH!??! Raiders beat the Saints, so he ended up losing 2 games, but still… oh well, back to the drawing board Week 3.

OK that’s it for now. Cubs beat the Pirates on Monday; thank God for the Pirates. Sox lost to the Indians; hope they don’t see them first round. Tuesday here we come…
