September 27, 2020: Golden Era Continues

When I was 8 years old, I saw the Cubs go to the playoffs; I was so excited. I didn’t know about their history of suckage, and that it had been 39 years since this had happened. I thought this was fun… it didn’t end fun, but surely we’d be back. And they were… 5 years later. 1989 was fun too, but it had the same non-fun ending. This time we had to wait 9 years to get back into the postseason. Is this how it is? On average, once every seven years to get into the playoffs? This is how it was for the Cubs.

2003 was really fun, because the Cubs actually won a playoff series for the first time in my life. 2003 was also really painful… Then we had 2007 & 2008, back to back years, wow! Back to back with no playoff series wins! Then came 2015. At that point, in my 39 years, I had seen the Cubs make the playoffs 6 times and win exactly 1 playoff series. This was the team that I chose to support? This is the team that played in the city I grew up in. There was no other choice… well, technically there was… but no, I had made my bed… I was a Cubs fan true and true, but this isn’t easy; at the same time, there is no other choice.

In 2015, the golden era of Cubs baseball began. With another playoff berth clinched for this year, that makes it 5 out of 6 years; THIS is more like it. On Saturday, with the Cardinals’ loss, the Cubs clinched the division for the 3rd time in that time frame. 2020 ain’t so bad after all… the golden era continues.

I medically describe it in my EBook, medical cialis 100mg canada and popular articles’. Sure, would I like more than just 1 World Series win… that 1 win that I waited for my entire life. Yes, of course. Does the lack of another World Series title mean this is NOT the golden era? I guess the folks that were around in 1906 could make a case. 4 World Series appearances in 5 years, winning 2 in a back to back fashion. I guess that’s better than the present era… but it’s not an era I was familiar with. In my lifetime, there has been nothing close to this; I will not take it for granted. If 2020 has taught us anything…

The fact that we made it through the season, good. The fact that no Cubs had COVID, good. The fact that the Cubs with their shitty offense and all won the division, good. About that offense… did it just come to life this weekend against the Sox? Now that would be good timing… To see Bryant back in the lineup, hitting home runs on back to back days… that feels pretty good. Knowing we have Kyle and Yu going 1-2 in the 3 game playoff series; that feels pretty good.

Playoff baseball is back for the Cubs, after the briefest of hiatuses. The 60 game sprint is complete; the crazy playoff bracket awaits. And who did the Cubs draw for this first best of 3 series? An old friend…
