September 5, 2020: Let’s Drop Two

posted in: Cubs | 0

I don’t think this was what Ernie had in mind when he said “let’s play two”. The Cubs looked like absolute dog doo-doo dropping both games of their doubleheader to the Cardinals.

If we want to start at the top of the doo-doo train, let’s start with Kris Bryant. What’s going on here? I know, I know… he had another little injury that hampered his performance; this is becoming a trend, which is not good. But he’s back and he still looks lost. I just knew watching KB in his first couple years that when it was all said and done, he’d be among one of the greatest Cubs ever. I’m not seeing it right now. I understand everybody goes through slumps, and understand that in this shortened season everything is magnified, but man… it’s tough to watch. Kris is not alone…

Welcome Javy Baez to the doo-doo club. If we’ve seen him swing at one bad ball, we’ve seen him swing at every bad ball. Whiff, whiff, whiff… throw in a little weak contact, and man; this is tough to watch. When Javy is going well, he’s hitting the ball hard to the opposite field. Somebody needs to run those numbers, because I’m convinced that’s not happening. It wouldn’t take much because not much of anything is happening right now for Baez. I’m not sure what it is. He made some comments that appeared to implicate Madden if I remember correctly, for the approach he had been taking. Now what? Same with Ross? Javy needs to turn it around too. I hate railing on my boys, especially THE boys with Bryant and Baez, but without them, regardless if the Cubs make the playoffs or not, the Cubs aren’t going to complete their mission. We need you guys.

Switching gears for a minute, the one guy that has been the man, has been Yu Darvish; how good has he been? Yu gave us the series opening win against the Cardinals, before dropping the doubleheader. He was magnificent, again. Ever since the 2nd half of last year, Yu has been on fire; I’m here for it. I think about the playoffs, and think about running this guy out there, regardless if it’s in a 1 game scenario, a 3 game series, or whatever we’re doing this year, having Darvish on the mound for that game is making me feel good. Keep spinning it Yu.

I hate the Cardinals; just thought I’d throw that out there. Although I love the powder blue uniforms in general from back in the day, why do those look especially ugly on the Cardinals? They’re not the same as the ones they wore back in the day, are they? Another thing: I hate that the Cardinals got Goldschmidt. I liked him; he’s a really good player, and oh yeah, he kills the Cubs. Sucks that he plays in St. Louis now.

OK, still 2 more games in the series. With the Cardinals winning 2 of the first 3, they are now 2.5 games behind the Cubs. Even if we split the remaining two, the Cards will have made up a game; if we lose the last two… OK, let’s WIN the last two, our last two games against them, and push that lead. Go Cubs!
