September 7, 2021: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

posted in: Bears | 0

It’s almost here… the most wonderful time of the year. No, we still have some time until Christmas. I really love the start of baseball season, and March Madness is awesome, but… the start of the NFL season… I’m not sure it gets better than that.

Last year’s disappointment is washed away. New acquisitions are in the house; new draft picks have been selected. Fantasy drafts are done; NFL picks pools and squares are ready to go. All the promotions for gambling sites are being reviewed… haha. Soccer, ha! There’s one sport that is king ’round these parts, and it is the NFL. Are you ready?

Last year was weird all the way around with COVID, the empty stadiums, the extended playoff qualifiers, including the Bears. It’s not like we need to put an asterisk on the Super Bowl champion or anything, like we did for basketball and baseball, but… who the hell wanted Tom Brady to get another ring? Enough is enough, eh? Will they be back in the mix this year? We’ll get to see them right out of the gate in a Super Bowl rematch… against the Cowboys? WTF? The most overrated team in the league every year will be in our face again on Opening Night, and again, they’ll flop. I do have Cee Dee Lamb on one of my fantasy teams, a rarity no doubt.

How are we feeling about the Bears roster? Questions on the offensive line, the secondary will be answered as the season begins. I feel pretty good about our front seven on D; I like Montgomery, Arob, Mooney, and Kmet for starters on offense. Of course the biggest bummer about this whole week is who the Bears decided to start at QB; we’re not going to beat this dead horse again, at least not today; we’ll wait for Sunday night for that. All the excitement from draft night, the promise of a potential franchise QB being drafted which lead to the anticipation of seeing him on the field, and the relief that first impressions were good… to the reality that he will be on the sideline to start the season; talk about a buzz kill. Patience… patience… isn’t easy ’round these parts with our QB history and 1 Super Bowl trophy from 35+ years ago… but trust in Nagy, right?

Yes, the Nagy and Pace combo has prepared us for another year. With the Bears making the playoffs 2 out of 3 years under Nagy, it could be worse… it could be better… it better be better! We’re due man…. shit, overdue.

Our fantasy teams will of course add to the joy of the season, helping distract us from another Bears train wreck, or enhancing our good mojo in an “up” year… unless our teams end up sucking. We have pools at work, both making picks and squares for each Bears game, to add a little excitement for everyone at the job; it’s fun. It’s fun to see my son so in to it this year. He may still not sit down and watch an entire game with me, but that’s OK. We’re already talking about how we’ll be playing football on the couch during the game, although with a Sunday nighter to kick it off, that may have to wait a week… yeah, he still goes to bed relatively early.

I’m ready. Yes, the Cubs have been on a nice run, but this baseball season can be discarded from my memory; if that was only possible. But Bears season… let’s go… LFG! I’m ready. The only decision that remains is what jersey I’ll be wearing on Sunday night. Welcome back football, and BEAR DOWN!!!
