September 9, 2021: The Return

Thursday night was the return of the NFL. It was glorious. It was so good. It was the best game ever. My God… settle down people. I know we always anticipate the start of a new season; I do. I know last year was weird with COVID (which is still going on btw); to have fans back is great. I know we saw the greatest QB ever play for his new team who happens to be the returning Super Bowl champions take on the most overrated team in the NFL with one of the most powerful owners in Jerry Jones. I know the game was really good. But for God’s sake, let’s stop acting like this was the Super Bowl…

It kind of was though… in the aspect of the fix being in. Tell me on that last drive that the one key downfield completion for the Bucs wasn’t offensive pass interference. Go ahead… tell me. And I’ll call you a straight up liar. I’m not a Cowboy fan by any means; in fact, I kind of hate them. I’m not a Brady fan either; in fact, I kind of hate him. This still didn’t ruin my enjoyment of this game… right up until that final drive when Brady got the help he needed from a very reliable source, the NFL refs. That was a bad call at a critical time; this is how it works.

Of course Brady is no stranger to these; he gets plenty of help being the greatest QB. From the tuck rule to deflate-gate, from all the video footage of other teams’ practices to the tender loving care of the league and its officials, the NFL makes sure their golden boy succeeds. “Another last minute game winning TD drive for Brady”… how convenient to start the season off like this… Winning on the ML but not covering the spread… perfect.

I love how Collinsworth tried to gloss over the call; he wasn’t even going to say anything about it until Michaels prompted him. No, he and everybody else wants to turn a blind eye to the bullshit. Of course, he then goes on to tell us that we will remember the TB kicker’s name forever if he makes or misses that FG… holy shit… really?!? Nobody gives 2 rats’ asses about Succop… kind of ironic, since Cris can certainly relate, going “all in” on worshipping the mighty NFL each time he’s on the mic.

What ever happened to challenging a missed PI? HA! You saw how that went right? These missed calls were challenged, we clearly saw that with the video replay, and they were STILL upheld!!! No shame in the game, let me tell you. The NFL machine marches on with Papa Vegas as the bandleader; nothing will stop it. Yeah, let’s just take that challenge ability away; they had to put it in… after the horrible PI missed call in the playoffs. I tell you… these refs really stick to their script.

The bigger the game, the more the FIX is in. If this game felt like the Super Bowl, the biggest fixed game of the year, you were right; there was definitely some good scripting in this one, and one late obvious PI call was NOT going to get in the way of the NFL’s happy ending. Welcome back football!
